This talk is about how Scintia is facilitating the way we teach, do research and innovate in biotechnology through the access and democratization of technology. Scintia embraces the STEAM model to inspire young people and individuals, not only in schools but also in public places and homes. Scintia is a Mexican startup working to improve the biotech landscape in LATAM, so Minerva will share this entrepreneurship journey from lab to market.
Minerva Castellanos, co-founder and COO of Scintia, co-founder of Sinestesia, bio-enthusiast and biohacker. Fellow of the MIT Media Lab Global Community Biotechnology Initiative, Fellow of WeXchange and biotechnology engineer of Tecnológico de Monterrey. Selected as one of the 100 young Leaders in Biotechnology in Latin America by the Allbiotech organization in 2017. Minerva has experience working in synthetic biology based on her participation during 3 years in the international iGEM competition. She is representative of Mexico in the open science community, participating at the Gathering for Open Science Hardware (GOSH) in Shenzhen, China in 2018. Recognized by Premio Mujer Tec in the entrepreneurship category, a women award by Tec de Monterrey in 2019. Minerva seeks to promote STEAM education in young people and promote science communication through bioart events. In 2018, she coordinated the Lúcida exhibition at the contemporary art museum, MARCO. Supported by The National Fund for Culture and the Arts she coordinated the exhibition of Sinestesia, Natural y Sintético in 2019.
